The team Moon Kids prepared the project Stuff in Space as participation in NASA Space Apps Challenge 2021 held on 2-3 October 2021.
We developed a web application prototype called Stuff in Space that tracks all the known space objects. It solves the challenge of mapping known space debris in real-time with 30 seconds intervals between each tracking period. This challenge was essential for us to solve, primarily for the environmental concerns that jeopardise missions. Every small piece of debris can pose a potential threat to crewed and uncrewed space vehicles and satellites. Creating safe access to space makes this challenge very important for the present and future of space travel.
This web app uses third party API to track the position of the satellites and debris. The functioning of this app is dependent upon the TLE API and data from CelesTrak. Prolong use of the satellite tracking in real-time may cause error due to API call limits. The position of the satellites or debris may not be perfectly accurate.
